I haven't been to the fair in many years because the Jacksonville Fair isn't what it was when I was growing up. When I was a kid we couldn't wait for the fair to come to town to go see the animals, make arts and crafts and ride the rides. I never thought about Carnies bring scary, well...because they didn't seem too scary back then. Two years ago, for my birthday, all I asked for was for my family to go to the Jacksonville Fair. I kept telling my kids how much fun it is and about all my favorite rides, etc. We all paid to get in (something crazy like $20 a piece) and we literally took about 15 steps and my kids thought I had lost my mind. They were afraid...and so was I. The rides all looked like they were going to break, the Carnies all looked straight out of a Stephen King novel and it was just plan dirty. We left and headed to Dave & Busters :(
So I was a little skeptical when my sister told me that she had heard the Clay County Fair was like the fair we remembered as kids...and it was!!! It was perfect! I can't wait for it to come back so I can take my whole family and show them what a real county fair is like!!!
And of course, it was my pleasure to document Miss Zoe's first trip to the fair :)
